ORDERS FOR THE ADVANCE ON ZULULAND
AND MAJUBA HILL
Day 1 (Friday) late afternoon
“Troops” will report for duty at the Majuba Lodge Garrison,
Newcastle, where they will be met and made welcome by the “General
Officer” Commanding the Garrison and his staff.
19h00 – Supper will be served at the all ranks
mess (Conference centre) followed by Induction into the Natal Field Force
and an orientation on the Zulu Wars (This is a Powerpoint and video presentation
by our Specialist Battlefield Guide)
Day 2 (Saturday)
06h30 – Reveille “Troops” will rise
and shine.
07h00 – 07h45 – Breakfast (full English)
will be served in the all ranks mess (Conference Centre)
08h00 – Troops will mount up (coach or own vehicles)
for the advance to the Zululand front.
09h45 – Troops will dismount at the Blood River
battle site where they will be taken on a tour of the battlefield.
11h00 – Troops will advance on Isandlwana via the
Ngwebini valley. (Zulu advance)
12h30 – Dismount at Isandlwana, site of the British
defeat at the hands of the Zululand. Troops will be taken on a tour of
the orientation centre and battlefield.
14h00 – Troops will withdraw to Rorke’s Drift
where rations (picnic Lunch) will be issued. After lunch troops will be
taken on a guided tour of this famous site.
16h00 – Troops shall retire on Newcastle
17h45 – Troops are expected to arrive back at Majuba
Lodge.
19h00 – Supper will be served at the all ranks
mess followed by an orientation on the Transvaal War of Independence.
Day 3 (Sunday)
07h00 – Reveille “Troops” will rise
and shine.
07h30 – 08h30 – Breakfast (full English)
will be served in the all ranks mess (Conference Centre).
09h00 – Troops will mount up (coach) for the advance
on Fort Amiel, the commissariat for Gen. Pomeroy Colley’s column
during the Transvaal War of Independence.
10h00 – Troops will advance on Majuba via the battlefields
at Schuinshoogte (Ingogo) and Laing’s Nek.
12h30 – Troops will dismount at the foot of Majuba
where they will be free to visit the Museum while rations (braai Lunch)
is prepared.
Those troops who feel up to it can climb the steep footpath up the mountain
and visit the battlefield proper with our guide. The climb up and down
takes approximately 2½ hours.
17h00 – Troops will be dismissed with the “General’s”
thanks and best wishes for a safe journey home.
